Donald Wong Biography
Donald Wong '92, Consultant, Former Partner, Media & Entertainment Vertical, EMC Consulting
Currently an independent consultant to several Hollywood studios, broadcast networks and mobile content providers on their digital media and big data initiatives, Donald brings with him many years of technology and business process experience in the media & entertainment space - experience gained while working at EMC, Rovi, and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Donald was the media & entertainment practice leader in the $750M consulting division of EMC, a Fortune 139 company, with $22B in revenue. He was also previously EMC's CTO of digital media, where he championed EMC's acquisition of Isilon Systems (petabyte-scale storage) for $2.3B. Donald also developed the professional services practice (cable vertical) at Rovi (formerly Macrovision/Gemstar/TV Guide), where his team deployed headend, set-top and tablet guide products serving 100+ million cable consumers in the Americas.
Donald spent eight years at Sony Pictures where he was VP of Digital Media Technologies, and VP of Change Management. His work included: transforming Sony's production-marketing-distribution processes to enable simultaneous release of major films worldwide; leading a large task force to streamline DVD operations; overhauling the syndicated TV ad sales division; integrating the $5B acquisition of MGM's library and distribution operations; and consolidating a variety of fragmented digital asset management technologies and workflows under one focused program.
Earlier in his career, Donald was a management consultant with Deloitte, and has held technical staff positions at GE Capital and ABB Asea Brown Boveri. He holds an MBA from UCLA, and a BS in Civil & Environmental Engineering from Cornell.
